Our journey started under our family carport in the midst of COVID. With a banner and business cards purchased and gathering of tools Onas already had from his previous bicycle repair business. We started to dream of impossible things.
From a humble start to a tragic flood our dream continued to rise and fall like the creek behind our community.
Having managed to build a small 10 X 10 shop and move from the carport to our new building our dream was growing. Then the flood in July washed over us.
The loss was great and our small business took a hard hit. We had to rebuild our home first then work on our business. The damage was drastic and overwhelming. It seemed our dream had been drowned by the flood waters. We didn't know how to recover from the damage.
Mountain Association had sent a representative to a meeting for the flood victims. We met Jimmy Owsley and he helped connect us with Terry Salyer. We didn't know what to expect but we hoped this help could revive our business dream.
Terry started his meetings with us to help get us back on track as business owners. He made us think about our business in new ways. With our revisiting our business plan it gave us new vision for how we wanted our shop to look and how we wanted to connect with our customers.
Our small business was important and our dream for it mattered. We formed a team and have been working hard to rebuild more than just our physical shop. We are rebuilding our dream. Focusing on our community and our customers we have become rejuvenated and inspired to start our business fresh. Letting go of what was lost was hard but now with a focus on what we have accomplished since reopening we are ready to get back to serving our community.
Our heartfelt thanks to Mountain Association and our business coach Terry Salyer for helping us regain our vision and reopen our business. Here is a video interview that Deedra Hanekamp did about working with Mountain Association.
